From its beginnings in the second half of the 18^th century, American Chippendale furniture inspired by the designs of Thomas Chippendale of London England, has been a hallmark of formal , tasteful  design. Over the years there have been many attempts to maintain the style while incorporating updated manufacturing processes. Gradually the stunning quality produced by traditional methods has given way to the competitive pressures of the international marketplace. Today only a handful of American craftsmen remain ready and able to offer a very limited supply of hand crafted reproductions of early American masterworks.
